Uncle Rick

Whereas Emma is the eldest of 13 kids, Uncle Rick is the youngest. Like his siblings before him, Rick carries on the tradition of kindness, generosity, and the trademark Placencia sense of humor.

If Sue is the nice one and J is the funny one, then Uncle Rick is the cool one, the guy you can kick back with over a beer and an episode of Seinfeld and just hang. You don't have to be around him long before you know Rick's the kind of guy who's just cool to be around. As a child, he always reminded me of Isaac, the cool bartender from The Love Boat. They both smile all the time, they're good guys, and (at least at the time) they both had amazing mustaches.

While I was living in Indiana a few years ago, Rick was always very eager to open up his home and have Dad and I over to watch the big fight or a movie or just have dinner and relax.

Writing about someone who's as cool as Rick is hard because you never feel like you can never capture just how cool he is. You can't really describe him, you have to be around him to witness it.

So Rick is cool. Just take my word for it.

To simply say my brother Rick is cool is an understatement, he is super cool! My little bro came to live with me in Cali for his last few years of High school and what a treat that was. Those that think I'm "the funny one" are kinda wrong because Rick IS funnier. He always cracks me up. I think he lays at home at night and thinks up "how can I shake up ? when I see ? again" he catches me off guard all the time. When it's time to be serious however, Rick is good there also. He has picked me up many times when I was down for whatever reason. His wife Mary and sons Ricky and Randy are all tops in my life. I always look forward to my next visit with them. I wish we lived closer and always hope we will eventually. It would be hard to point out one specific funny thing because there were so many, like when he begged me to let him drive my Ranchero then immediately drove over the gutter of an aluminum awning Bros Gene and Arni were attempting to assemble, or when he drove my van (after begging Gene and Arni and backed into a telephone post and a large propane tank all within 60 seconds, or that time in Vegas when he shot a moon at us from an upper floor..whoops this is a family channel, I will close by saying I am proud to be Rick's brother and I love him with all my heart.
