Sad or Cool?

I can distinctly remember being in my early 20s and looking down on people in their 30s who listened to the same popular music I was listening to. Who are these sad people, I thought, who refuse to grow up and are trying to be all young and stuff and they're not and that's just weird and sad.

Flash forward 15 years and here I am listening to Akon, Daughtry, Rihanna, AFI, The Send and whatever else happens to be playing on my local hit radio station. I'm not listening to Dan Fogelberg or the Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd like people over 28 are supposed to listen to.

I don't know if that makes me cool or sad or somewhere in between. But the fact that I have to question how cool I am probably pushes the needle closer to the "sad" reading.

good post, i dont think its a cool or sad acid test, but dont leave the stones and floyd etc behind. It would be a shame. I am a thirtysomething and I dont think that popular music measure up to older stuff.

Anyway I tend to grow angry by listening to popular radio - http://redleeroy.wordpress.com/2007/11/21/radio-ga-ga/

Don't be silly. It's not sad to listen to the music you want. Especially not if it's new music. Look at me! I'm seventeen years old and I listen to Soul and Opera! No, you're not that you have to question it. But you are sad if you believe people over 28 have to listen to the Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd. You'd actually be surprised what types of music younger generations are listening to these days. Someone in my year listens to Pink Floyd for example. Indeed, your taste in music should not be decided by your age.

Love this entry...I have been more impacted by bands like U2, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and bands from the 90's and on then the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc...but I do really enjoy those kind of bands and obviously have a ton of respect for them...but I hate Pink Floyd...

What does it make a person when they're 20 and listening to the music their parents listened to when they were 20? I'd take Dan Fogelberg over pretty much any band these days...
